The Builder Special: Why Your Brand-New Closet Is Mostly Empty Air
One wire shelf and a rod, seven feet up, with about 43 cubic feet of nothing underneath. What the builder left out of your new-build closet, and what fits in the same eight feet.
CUSTOM STORAGE · VAUGHAN, ON
In Vaughan the primary closet is often a room in its own right, and it deserves to be finished like one. Dream Spaces designs, builds and installs custom closets, dressing rooms and built-in storage measured to your space, from Kleinburg and Woodbridge to Maple and Thornhill. Built at our Barrie workshop, installed by our own team.
Serving Vaughan, Woodbridge, Kleinburg and Maple
OUR WORK
Vaughan houses have the footprint; what they usually lack is a plan for it. The projects below show closet design applied at that scale: islands, full-height towers, glass-front display, and dedicated storage for the wardrobes of more than one generation. The same team builds built-in wall units, wall beds and custom kitchen cabinets in Vaughan.
WHY DREAM SPACES
Two things make Vaughan closets different. The first is scale: in Kleinburg and the newer Maple and Woodbridge builds, the primary closet is frequently 100 square feet or more, and a stock kit simply cannot organise a room that size. It needs zoning, an island or a bench, and drawer capacity closer to a piece of furniture than a closet. The second is household size. A lot of Vaughan homes are multi-generational, which means wardrobe storage in more than one bedroom, seasonal overflow that has to go somewhere sensible, and guest rooms that need to work as bedrooms and as storage. That is a whole-house storage plan, not a closet purchase, and it is what we design for.
We come to you. Our designers assess your space and create a solution around how you actually live.
Every piece is designed for your room. Canadian-made materials, professional build, and a finish that lasts.
No franchise overhead. Direct relationships, faster decisions, and a team that takes every project personally.
For as long as you own your home. Quality backed by a warranty that means something.
SERVICES
Kleinburg, Woodbridge and Maple houses usually have the space, so the problem is a large closet with a single rail down one wall. We rebuild the inside of it around what you actually hang, fold and stack.
HOW IT WORKS
One Dream Spaces team designs, builds and installs every Vaughan project: measured on site, built in Barrie, fitted by the people who drew it.
We start with a relaxed conversation, either in your home or over a video call. We’ll walk through your space together, talk about what’s working (and what isn’t), and get a clear sense of your routine.
Next, we design your space around you. You’ll get a rendering of your custom closet or built-in solution, always tailored to your layout, your storage needs, and your style.
Our team handles the full installation from start to finish. We show up on time, protect your space, and get to work, working efficiently so most installations are completed in a single day.
We’ll walk through everything together to make sure it’s exactly how you want it.
Yes, Woodbridge, Kleinburg, Maple, Thornhill and across Vaughan. Design and build happen at our Barrie workshop and our own team installs; consultations are at your home or over video.
Yes, and in Vaughan that is often the right brief. When the room is large enough, we plan it like a small boutique: an island with drawers, seating, full-height hanging, glass-front display for bags and accessories, and lighting designed into the cabinetry. See custom closet design for how that process runs.
Room size, how much of it gets fitted, and the finish level set the price, at Vaughan scale the run length is usually the biggest single factor. We quote from a measured design instead of a bracket. Where everything is made matters too: we are Canadian-owned and Canadian-made, unlike the major US franchise brands.

One wire shelf and a rod, seven feet up, with about 43 cubic feet of nothing underneath. What the builder left out of your new-build closet, and what fits in the same eight feet.

The closet you build for a four-year-old is wrong by nine and faintly humiliating by fourteen. Eight decisions that let a kids’ closet change with the child.

Two quotes for the same closet can land thousands apart. What drives the number, and the three construction questions that make any two quotes comparable.
