GARAGE STORAGE
Garage Wall Cabinets
The floor is where garage storage goes to die. Bins stack up along the wall, then a second row appears in front of the first, and within a year you can’t reach the thing at the back without moving four other things. Then the car stops fitting.
What We Build
Wall cabinets get everything off the concrete and behind a door. Ours are steel, not the melamine box we’d use in a bedroom closet. Powder-coated finish, so they take knocks from a bike pedal or a ladder without showing it. Adjustable shelving inside, because the height you need for paint cans isn’t the height you need for a cordless drill kit and its case.
Doors lock. That matters more in a garage than anywhere else in the house, since the garage is where the chemicals, the power tools and the sharp things live, and it’s often the room a kid can walk into unsupervised.
We build floor-to-ceiling runs and upper-only runs. Which one you want usually comes down to whether you need the floor beneath for a mower, a bike or a recycling bin.
Why Steel Here, Not Wood
An unheated garage in Barrie is a harder environment than any room inside the house. Temperature swings across the year, humidity through the summer, and salt and meltwater tracked in off the car every winter that sits on the floor until it evaporates.
That’s the reason we don’t specify a garage the way we’d specify a bedroom closet. A cabinet box that performs well behind a closet door, in a heated room at steady humidity, isn’t automatically the right call bolted to a garage wall. Steel and a powder-coated finish are the answer to the environment rather than a style preference.
Getting the boxes up off the floor matters for the same reason. The salt and the standing water are at ground level, and anything sitting in them is going to have a shorter life than the same thing hung a foot higher.
Where Cabinets Are the Wrong Answer
If you want to see your things, a cabinet is the wrong product. Slatwall and open shelving exist because some tools get used weekly, and putting them behind a door adds a step you’ll resent.
Most garages we finish end up mixed. Cabinets for what should be hidden or locked, slatwall for what you grab on the way past.
Cabinets are also the more expensive option per foot of wall. If the budget only covers one wall this year, we’ll usually suggest putting cabinets where the mess is worst and leaving the rest for later. Nothing about phase one stops phase two.
Depth Matters More Than You'd Think
The common mistake is ordering cabinets as deep as the wall allows. A deep cabinet swallows things at the back, and you end up with the same reach problem you had with the bins, just at chest height.
In a garage the depth usually gets decided by the bay rather than by the wall. Door swing, mirror clearance and how far you actually pull in all take priority, and in a tight single bay that’s the number that governs. It’s why we’d rather measure with the car in place than work off the wall dimension alone.
Everything we build is made in Canada by our own team in Ontario, and it forms part of a wider plan for your garage and utility space.
We also build custom closets and custom Murphy beds and wall beds when the project runs past the garage door.
Lockable doors are the reason these come up so often in rental properties, and we go into that on our rental property storage page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you build around an existing workbench or shelving?
Usually. We measure what’s staying and design the run to meet it. Tell us during the consultation what you don’t want touched.
Will cabinets fit if I still want to park two cars?
That’s the most common request we get, and it’s the reason we measure the bay with the cars in it where we can. Door swing and mirror clearance decide the depth more often than the wall does.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the size of the run and on whether flooring is going in at the same time. We’ll give you a duration with your quote, once we’ve measured, rather than a number that turns out not to apply to your garage.
Are they made in Canada?
Our cabinetry is Canadian-made. We design, build and install with our own team in Ontario.
What's the warranty?
Our work carries the Homeowners Lifetime Warranty.
